Shabnam grew up on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, the land of lords and looms: Theyyam ritual performance and handloom weaving. Where she is from, craft and devotion share the same word, and that idea has shaped how she works ever since.

She calls herself a collector of memories, conversations, and experiences. She defines herself as a seeker: she finds purpose in whatever she does, and believes learning is a continuous process and a career is a journey.
